Family Mediation Process

MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting)
Individual · up to 1 hour · Zoom · £100
The MIAM is an individual meeting which lasts up to one hour. It is the first essential step in the mediation process and each person involved will be invited to attend their own meeting. The mediators will get to know you and learn about your situation and you will learn about what happens in mediation. Our mediators will provide impartial guidance to help you understand your options. It is a confidential, supportive environment where your concerns and needs are given priority. Safe-guarding is an important part of the process. You will then decide with the mediator whether mediation is a safe and suitable process for your particular circumstances.
Anyone wishing to start court proceedings in family disputes will need to attend a MIAM.
MIAMs are on Zoom and cost £100. A MIAM lasts up to one hour.
If you both decide that mediation is the right process for your circumstances, a joint Mediation Session will be organised.

Mediation Session
Both parties · 90 minutes · Zoom · £150 per person
A family mediation joint meeting is a structured session where both of you meet together with our accredited mediators to discuss the issues you need to resolve, such as arrangements for children, finances, or property. Our mediators act as impartial facilitators, helping each of you to communicate your views clearly, identify your key areas of disagreement, and explore possible solutions in a respectful and constructive environment. The purpose of a joint meeting is to encourage open discussion, reduce conflict, and support you both in working toward mutually acceptable agreements without the need for court proceedings.
Many clients choose to consult a solicitor before mediation but this is not always necessary. Our mediators will help you identify whether and if so at what point you may benefit from consulting a solicitor.
Shuttle Mediation
Our mediators have experience of Shuttle Mediation so that you do not have to be in the same space as your ex-partner. Our mediators speak to you individually, one at a time, conveying messages, proposals and concerns between you. Some clients find this helps reduce conflict and ensures they feel safe in the process.
A Mediation Session is on Zoom and costs £150 per person. Each session lasts 90 minutes.
We are part of the Government Mediation Voucher Scheme which provides funding of up to £500 towards joint meeting mediation costs if you wish to discuss child arrangements.

Documents
Recording what you have agreed
When family mediation joint sessions reach a successful conclusion, our mediators can prepare several key documents to record what has been agreed. These typically include a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which outlines the full details of the proposals reached; an Open Financial Statement (OFS), summarising the financial information disclosed by each party; and, where children are involved, a Statement of Child Arrangements setting out practical arrangements for their care. These documents can be taken to solicitors to be converted into a Consent Order making the arrangements legally binding.
The costs for preparing these documents are:
- Memorandum of Understanding£150 per person
- Open Financial Statement£100 per person
- Statement of Child Arrangements£50 per person
